Closer cooperation
EHFM’s direct relationships with broadcasters and media partners now cover the full process, from rights negotiations and contracting to onboarding, match bookings, signal delivery and ongoing operational support.
Ahead of the season, EHFM held its first ‘Broadcaster Workshop’ at the European Handball House in Vienna on 25 August. The workshop brought together broadcasters and other industry partners to introduce operational processes and tools, prepare for the new season and establish direct working relationships under the new setup.
Connected production and distribution
Producing and distributing matches across different countries, venues and technical environments requires coordination between local production teams, technical providers and broadcasters.
EHFM has expanded remote production across key markets. In addition to the existing remote production setup in Scandinavia, matches in France and Germany have been produced remotely since the start of the season, working with AMP Visual and Stop&Go in France and Gravity Media in Germany. EHFM is working with partners in other markets to explore further opportunities for moving in this direction.
EHFM manages and coordinates the overall production and distribution setup, working with specialised external partners to meet broadcaster requirements and maintain consistent production and delivery standards.
The setup implemented for this season combines traditional satellite delivery with increasingly IP-based workflows, providing greater flexibility in how live signals are transmitted and delivered to broadcasters across different markets.
EHFM continues its cooperation with Spalk, the cloud-based commentary platform, enabling commentary to be produced remotely and integrated into the live signal workflow. This gives EHFM greater flexibility to develop commentary services and introduce additional languages in response to market demand.
Beyond the live broadcast
The live signal also provides the starting point for a wider content ecosystem serving broadcasters, clubs, EHF-owned platforms and digital channels.
Building on several seasons of collaboration, EHFM has established a direct partnership with WSC Sports to continue developing automated video content creation and explore new capabilities.
WSC Sports’ technology identifies key moments during matches and enables the creation of highlights, short-form clips and tailored video packages for different platforms and audiences.
Alongside the automated video assets generated through WSC, additional content produced by EHFM and club content creators around matches and events forms a key part of the content offering. Together, these assets feed into the new EHF Content Desk.
Developed in cooperation with DYN Media, the platform serves as a central hub where broadcasters, clubs and players can access, share and distribute match and non-match content.
The EHF Content Desk connects content creation and distribution more closely with the wider media operations workflow, bringing together content from different sources and making it available for further distribution and amplification across broadcaster , club and player channels.
EHFTV, the EHF’s direct-to-consumer streaming platform, complements the international broadcaster network by providing worldwide live coverage in markets where rights are available, alongside match highlights, documentaries and additional video content.
Together, these services allow a single match to generate multiple content outputs beyond the original broadcast.
First results and next steps
As of 15 October, 152 matches have already been played across the men’s and women’s EHF Champions League and EHF European League competitions. More than 13,000 video clips have been generated through WSC Sports, with over 2,000 distributed to broadcasters and clubs.
The opening weeks have demonstrated the new setup in operation, connecting match production, signal delivery and content services with direct broadcaster support.
Miguel Mateo, Director Content & Media Operations at EHF Marketing, said: "Our new media setup provides a strong foundation for the development of the product. Our priorities are to expand remote production, make greater use of IP-based signal distribution and enhance our services for broadcasters. At the same time, it opens up further opportunities to extend the value of live matches through additional content and distribution services for broadcasters, clubs and fans."
