Austria, Portugal, Spain, Norway, Denmark and Sweden qualified to the main round as leaders in their respective groups and will be joined by Iceland and Germany, who secured their spot as the two second-best-ranked teams.
The eight teams are divided into two main round groups, with four nations in each one. After the conclusion of this stage, the top two teams in each group will qualify for the semi-finals.
Reigning champions Spain keep up hopes for a fourth title in the competition, after reaching the main round with a perfect record of three wins and no losses.
- last edition’s runners-up Portugal will face Spain in group G in a reenactment of the 2022 final; the last time they met, Spain won the trophy after a narrow 37:35 victory
- Austria and Iceland will have a challenging mission in group G against Portugal and Spain, as they are still looking for their first medals in the competition
- current record champions Denmark will go against Norway, Sweden and Germany in group H in an attempt to add a fifth title to their collection
- Norway’s attack is led by Patrick Helland Anderson, who is currently second in the top scorer charts with 29 goals
- on the other hand, Denmark can count in defence on the impressive skills of their goalkeeper Malte Julius Johnsson Eichhorst (43.3 per cent save efficiency)
- the last time Denmark reached the semi-finals was in 2014 and were joined by Germany, Sweden and Spain; all of them are still in the competition
