The EHFM boards: the Advisory Board, Women’s Club Board and Men’s Club Board

EHFM is a team of approximately 30, working in areas such as marketing and sales, events, clubs and administration, implementation and venue management, media, content, and business intelligence.

That team is supported and guided by three bodies: the EHFM Advisory Board (AB), the EHFM Women’s Club Board (WCB) and the EHFM Men’s Club Board (MCB).

When and why were the EHFM boards formed?

EHFM was formed due to the developments and challenges faced in European handball up to the year of EHFM founding in 2005. With the EHF having been founded in 1991, the formation of the EHF Champions League in the 1993/94 season and the implementation of the EHF EURO in 1994, European handball was rapidly expanding and professionalising — and so were its management structures.

The EHFM boards were formed to support the work of EHFM itself and ensure a cohesive line with the direction of the EHF. As such, the AB was formed in tandem with EHFM, in 2005, and is comprised of several members of EHF leadership as well as representatives of the MCB and WCB.

The WCB and MCB came a few years later, in 2008, as a need to add to the advisory structure and further collaboration with the clubs and national leagues became clear.

What are the functions of the EHFM boards?

The AB has the role of advising the EHFM managing director as well as the General Meeting of Shareholders. The AB may make recommendations and issue instructions to EHFM and the managing director.

The function of the WCB and MCB is to advise the AB and the EHFM managing director.

The work of the WCB and MCB is closely tied to their respective gender’s Forum Club Handball body, and several members of the WCB and MCB come from Forum Club Handball (FCH). FCH is a stakeholder of the EHF, and also works closely with the EHF Competitions Commission.

Through this collaboration and given their composition featuring several FCH body members, the WCB and MCB are intimately connected with the interests of the clubs and provide a crucial two-way link with EHFM.

Who is on the EHFM boards and how are they selected?

The EHFM AB is comprised of members of the EHF leadership, including the sitting president. In addition, the AB counts members of FCH: The managing director, and always at least one representative each of the men’s (MFCH) and women’s (WFCH) bodies.

EHF leadership positions are elected through Congress and those elected subsequently automatically hold their function on the AB. The FCH managing director and representatives are selected internally.

The MCB is comprised of EHF leadership and MFCH leaders and representatives, with a total of eight members.

The WCB currently has three members, all of which are representatives from WFCH.

The majority of positions on the MCB and WCB are tied to other roles. Those that are specifically selected come through an internal process in the FCH bodies.
